Recently, a small group of Concerned Lancaster county citizens met to share ideas on how to preserve and share the story of our history. This group started with reviewing an earlier project, Lancaster County Black History - A Photographic and Literary document - focusing on the timeline, 1785 - 1991.

This project was managed by the Lancaster County Black Heritage Committee; with Theodora S. Smith as the Director and Mary B. Mackey as the Co - Director. There were many who volunteered their time and skills to this project, which started in 1985. The output of this project was a written document and a collection of photographs.

Fast forward to 2024, this small group of Lancaster county citizens, working with Ms. Stella Williams has organized a Traveling Photo Exhibit to share these prized photographs with the community. Please see the flyer below for the dates, times and locations. Please share and encourage your church members, family, and friends to see the exhibit.

We feel that it is of utmost importance to share this information with our youth.

Also, we want to use this as an opportunity to identify other documents and artifacts of our African - American History in Lancaster, SC. We want to add the timeline 1991 - present.

If you have documents or artifacts of historical/educational significance, please stop by one of the exhibits or contact us.

Lastly, we want to share our history for 12 months/365 days. We want to share this exhibit the remainder of the year, throughout Lancaster County and, if requested, beyond Lancaster County.

The photos can be placed on easels, which are provided, or tables. There are 20 - 25 framed photographs. As you know, we just ask that you handle the photographs with care and return as received.
